The concept
A box for a sailor, on a shoestring budget.
A country home designed for a sailor on the high seas — the design was developed on a shoestring budget for an 80'x50' site facing east on Devenahalli Road, in a gated community called Jade Garden. The home was designed to get the maximum view of the open space in front of the building; the client wished to see the horizon, sit out and lounge on the deck. Home is a place made in the mind, the physical realm merely follows suit.
Detail
The requirement was simple: a living, dining and kitchenette area, and a large deck on one level with a single bedroom and attached bathroom. The box stands looking up expectantly, almost stretching its neck out for its ever-travelling owner to inhabit it — the architect prefers to term it 'jazzed blues'. The sliding door brings the large open balcony space into the living area; the bedroom is on the ground floor and the living areas are on the first floor.
